You Will Never Hear of Him Again

WTOP is reporting that the huge Powerball jackpot won at a Safeway in SE Washington has been claimed. The winner is an 82 year old man who is using the money to set up a charity and educational, and health trusts for his family. Good for you, sir. This guy totally has the right idea and this is totally what I hope I have the wherewithal to do if I ever hit the jackpot. Let's be honest though, I will probably buy a small tropical island or do something epic involving strippers and a slip-and-slide. (Note to self: do not use detergent) Unfortunately for the media, this means he will fade into obscurity since, due to his financial savy, nothing will go horribly wrong

Congrats Ovie!

Alex Ovechkin had a monster night against the Penguins in the NHL Eastern Conference Semifinal Game 2, scoring a hat trick (including the game-winning-goal) and causing the red-clad faithful packing the Verizon Center to jubilantly cover the ice in headgear and propelling the Caps to a 4-3 win and 2-0 series lead. Ovechkin's trey overshadowed rival superstar Sidney Crosby's hat trick, which, as the Post's Dan Steinberg reports, caused the Penguins forward to whine incessantly. The Elias Sports Bureau reports that it was only the fourth time in NHL history that players on both teams had hat tricks in the same playoff game. The previous instances were on April 14, 1983 (Edmonton's Mark Messier and Calgary's Paul Reinhart), April 26, 1993 (Washington's Al Iafrate and the Islanders' Ray Ferraro) and April 25, 1996 (Colorado's Joe Sakic and Vancouver's Trevor Linden) .

Welcome to the Blogosphere

So I've been meaning to set up a blog for a while now, and I finally got up the motivation to set up a blog and start writing. I've been Twittering (@ahwahoo2006) for the last month or so and have really gotten into the swing of that, but the 160 character limit is way too constraining to offer a whole lot of insight into pretty much anything.

Not that I really have a whole lot of insight to offer, seeing as how I'm a little (read: fashionably) late to the blogging party, but hopefully I can provide some. I have a lot of interests and directions I'm thinking about, so I'm gonna take this slow and see where it goes. I've noticed a lot of love for DC proper, and not a whole lot for those of us over the river, so I'd like to provide some Arlingon-centric views on activities and food. National and local military and political news and local sports should fill out the rest, and maybe some stories if anything exciting happens to me (not that it ever does).
